Juvederm
Juvederm™ wrinkle treatments are performed by Dr. Phyllis J. Smith for patients in our Huntington, New York office, to remove fine lines and to fill deeper lines and add volume in places where it is lost over time.
Juvederm is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. As hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring component of your skin, allergy testing is unnecessary. Juvederm has been used in Europe for years. Facial wrinkles and creases begin to appear in your lips and skin as the underlying collagen and elastin fibers begin to break down and wear out. While this breakdown is part of the natural aging process, it can also result from excessive squinting, frowning and smiling. In the past, the most frequently used material for filling facial wrinkles and frown lines was injectable collagen. Recently, injectable Juvederm has exploded on the scene as the longer-lasting, more natural filler preferred by physicians worldwide.
How does it work?
Treatments are done in our office and take about 30 minutes and the result is immediate. Juvederm contains hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal-clear gel. Unlike other fillers, it is supplied to your doctor in syringes, each of a different density. Each filler is designed for a specific treatment area. Dr. Smith may use a mixture of fillers of different densities to help you achieve your desired appearance. She may also recommend Botox or Dysport for dynamic wrinkles.
Juvederm is injected into the skin to create volume, resulting in a healthy and vital appearance. When injected into the lip it can restore a more natural sensuous look. In contrast to other implants, Juvederm is not extracted from animals. This means that you don’t have to worry about an allergic reaction. Juvederm is perfectly safe to use instantly without pre-testing.
What areas respond the best to Juvederm?
Fine lines in the forehead, “crow’s feet”, wrinkles between the eyes, on the cheeks and at the corners of the mouth, and deeper wrinkles on the cheeks and chin all respond well to Juvéderm. Lip enhancement or a “pouting” lip can be achieved using Juvederm. This treatment also improves the vertical or “Smoker’s Lines” along the edges of the lip.
Is Juvederm safe?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore it also resolves naturally and is integrated into your body’s tissues. Over time, the molecules dissolve and turn into water as they depart without leaving any trace in your body.
How long does it last?
It varies from individual to individual. The length of time your treatment will last depends on many factors such as your skin, your lifestyle and your age. Most patients find the effect remains after 9 months. However, the average lip treatment lasts for about 6 months due movement in this area.
The great thing about Juvederm is that you can replenish your natural beauty whenever you feel the need. Unlike permanent implants, Juvederm always leaves you a choice when the effect of the treatment has worn off. A touch-up can be performed any time you like after the previous treatment.
Furthermore, a face is constantly changing and beauty is best maintained by periodically evaluating the need for further treatment.
What are the treatments like?
The treatment is performed by injecting Juvederm under your skin. Since no pre-test is needed, the whole procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Pain relief is usually not needed, but many patients like the added comfort provided when we apply an anesthetic cream about an hour before the injections.
How will I look after my Juvederm treatment?
After Dr. Smith performs your Juvederm injections, normal activities can be resumed immediately. Discomfort is minimal. The treatment site may have a little swelling, which may last a few hours. There may be some slight bruising which can be covered with make-up. Depending on the area treated, correction usually lasts from 6 – 9 months.
If you have been wondering how to get rid of your wrinkles but aren’t ready for surgery, Juvederm may be the answer.
