Juvederm Voluma XC
Juvederm Voluma XC™ injections are performed by Dr. Phyllis J. Smith for patients in our Huntington, New York office for treatment of the nasolabial folds. As collagen, elastin and fat diminish in the cheek or mid face area over time, Voluma can replenish the volume that is lost.
Voluma is the latest FDA approved advancement in filler injections used to improve the appearance of age-related volume loss in the cheek area.
How does Juvederm Voluma XC work?
Juvederm was designed to provide a more effective, longer-lasting, extra lift that is required to correct volume loss in the midface/cheek area of the face.
Juvederm does exactly what the name implies. Think of it as analogous to re-inflating a balloon. Our doctor uses Voluma for patients to increase the volume under the skin which in turn fills and lifts their sagging skin. After treatment, the overlying skin is pulled up and remains smooth while providing a more natural correction to the nasolabial folds and a lift to the lower face. We have found that Juvederm Voluma XC flows easily and consistently, allowing us to provide a fuller, more youthful appearance.
What are the limitations of Juvederm Voluma XC?
Unfortunately, Juvederm is not a permanent solution. The effects of the treatments can last up to two years. Early studies indicate that both men and women like Juvederm since it has lidocaine, requires fewer visits and lasts longer.
Can I have Juvederm Voluma XC treatments if I take other medications?
Most patients can usually be treated with Voluma regardless of other medications used. However, it is important to let your doctor know what medications you are taking during your consultation before undergoing any medical procedure.
Your Juvederm Voluma XC consultation
During your consultation with Dr. Smith you will discuss your concerns and the changes that you’d like to make in your appearance. The doctor will explain the treatments available to you, review the procedures, and point out the risks and limitations involved. Together you will decide the best treatment option for you.
What is a Juvederm Voluma XC treatment like?
Treating volume loss with Juvederm is a simple and safe procedure and the entire treatment takes about 10 minutes.
Dr. Smith performs volume loss treatments using Voluma in our office. Using a tiny needle, Voluma is injected, very precisely, into your midface or cheek. Because Voluma contains lidocaine, the pain associated with the treatment is minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite. No sedation is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself home or back to work.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effects associated with Voluma include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps and itching. You may experience some slight temporary bruising at the treatment site. This can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, omega-3, Vitamin E and red wine prior to your appointment. Pretreatment one week prior to procedure with arnica, via the oral and/or topical route, and/or bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple and pineapple juice, may help to minimize the risk of bruising.
